About L'Anja
L'Anja Barbic is the Executive Director at Widlast Legal and a Certified Business Development & Success Coach. She holds an International Post-Graduate Degree from OTHM in Coaching and Leadership Development. In her role, she works closely with co-founders Janis Carney and Lara Grisemer, overseeing the firm’s business development, human resources, marketing, billing, and daily operations.
With over 25 years of experience in strategic business planning for both corporate giants and independent ventures, L'Anja has played a key role in building successful organizations and nurturing leadership growth. Her journey is one of resilience, compassion, and a steadfast commitment to creating a positive impact.
In L'Anja's Own Words
"My professional journey was shaped early in life when I realized that my true calling was to make a difference in the lives of others. Growing up as the eldest of seven children in a family that faced many challenges, I naturally took on the role of leader and counselor. These early experiences taught me empathy and compassion, helping me recognize the potential in others and motivating me to contribute positively to the world.
Throughout my career, I've had the privilege of holding significant roles in esteemed organizations across the Bay Area. Before joining Widlast Legal, I spent six years as a Operations Manager for a leading retail coffee company, overseeing more than 80 staff members and implementing operational excellence. Prior to that, I served as Store Manager, Trainer, and Acting District Manager for one of the largest Fortune 500 retail chains, leading teams and locations to exceed expectations during my 16-year tenure. In total, I've had the honor of managing nearly 500 leaders and staff members.
I also strive to make an impact in my community. After the devastating Santa Cruz hills fires a few years ago, I organized a community forum that provided a space for communication and shared resources to support those who had lost their homes.
I've come to learn that leading with empathy fosters remarkable outcomes. Whether it’s helping employees grow, nurturing client relationships, or driving strategic organizational progress, I've always believed that authentic connections are at the heart of both personal and professional success.I’m incredibly grateful to lead the exceptional team at Widlast Legal. This role perfectly aligns with my desire to give back to the community, whether by supporting our clients and their families or cultivating a compassionate and skilled legal team. I find purpose in creating meaningful change.
Beyond my work, I find joy in the arts, holistic medicine, nature, music, dance, cooking, just being silly, and maintaining deep relationships. My personal life is enriched by my roles as a mother, friend, partner, dog mom, and advocate for others. With a heart full of empathy and a passion for transformation, I strive to make the most of my time on this planet by helping shape a better world, one small interaction and step at a time. I only hope that my legacy is one where people felt cared for and inspired"
